"The Environment" That phrase has been on our tongues for a while now, and environmentally friendly offices are just starting to kick off as people try and make a little effort to lessen our effects on the environment.
You are probably thinking, hey i work in an office how does an office damage the environment? Well think about your office, break it down.
What does an office need?
1- Electricity 2- Paper
What byproducts does an office produce?
1- Paper waste 2- Other waste i.e. Food waste, plastic...
Starting to get the big picture?
So i am sure many of you are able to put two and two together, but for those of you who get a five out of that calculation let me break it down for you...
What can you do to be more eco friendly...
1- Turn off your computers at night.
What are they on for? Do they get any work done when you are not at the help?
2- Use environmentally friendly computers
Less electricity used means that if we all do the same the consumer demand goes down meaning they don't have to make as much electricity meaning less damage to the environment.
3- Turn off lights that are not in use.
I have worked in a few offices and a lot of the time there are lights on that no one is using, so this one is a no brainer.
4- Use less paper.
Have a memo to send out, use outlook, have your to-dos written out, use word or notepad or even better use BaseCamp to keep track of your tasks!
5- Take in your own food or get food wrapped in recycled materials
When you take in your own food you probably will be taking in your leftovers meaning less food waste at home as well, if you don't really fancy leftovers you could always just buy food that comes wrapped in recycled materials.
6- Recycle, recycle, recycle
If you don't have one set a recycle target and try and recycle as much as you can at your office!
Whether we believe it or not, We make a huge impact on our environment in nearly every sector, and we need to all look into whatever sector we are and try to do our best to make a positive impact rather than a negative one.
So start caring today!
