Setting up for YouTube

So you have set up a YouTube account? Well below are my tips to get a successful channel...

The key to YouTube marketing is the same as with any other social network, the only difference is with YouTube you can reach out to a lot more people and be more visual and forthcoming.

YouTubeBelow is my guide to how you would set up a good YouTube channel perfect for video marketing and how to manage your channel and reach out to your target audience. Make sure while you are running through this process you have all content written down in word and constantly save your changes.
Setting up.

1. The first thing you do is go to www.youtube.com and press sign up.

2. Select a relevant username that reflects what the company does. i.e. if the company name is "DesignFront"(Design company) we would use exactly that as their main service is mentioned, however if the name were "AGDo"(Design company) we would select a name like "A Good Design Company" or "Design Agency" which is more relevant to the services or products provided.

3. Fill in any remainder information to whatever yours is or any other as this information will not be displayed on the channel.

Customization & Optimization

Part 1 - Information

1. Go to Profile Set up on the account settings section and enter relevant information optimized for SEO into the relevant areas i.e. in the About me section you would put information about the company. Also place a link to the company's website as YouTube turns this into an actual link meaning if the actual website links to the YouTube channel this will be one of many reciprocal links. Also enter the website URL in the area shown. Also make sure you add a custom picture as this will be the avatar for the channel.

2. There is no need to enter any personal details and make sure on the age radio list that "Do not display my age" is selected.

3. No information is needed for the following sections: (Home town/Location - Jobs/Career - Education - Interests)

Part 2 - Customization

1. Make sure that the following checkboxes are the only ones to be checked, if any aren't, do so.

2. Make sure that all other possible social networks are set up on auto share in the sharing tab, usually just Facebook and twitter and also make sure you add the company blog in the blog setup, what this does is post a tweet or Facebook status update when you post a new video or make comments or have any kind of interaction on YouTube this builds a large network of social networking for this company with minimal effort.

3. Get one of the MT designers to create a custom background as this is essential to give users a sense that this isn't just another channel, and that is actually worked on and maintained properly.

4. When you are on the actual channel when logged in you will have tabs along the top, select "Modules" and make sure only the following are checked and anything else would have no use.

5. Finally one of the last things you need to do for set up is on the settings tab, add relevant channel tags and a relevant title.

Running with YouTube

Getting a successful channel takes time, but we can achieve excellent results by dedicating little more than an hour a week.

When you add a video you need to make sure you tag the video well and add an SEO optimized title and description and make sure that the company URL is in the description as this adds another quality link to the company's website.

Adding a video and doing the above is not enough, when you add a video YouTube automatically tweets it and spreads it across twitter and YouTube as well as posting it on your blog. But relying solely on this auto share is not enough so when you have added a video you need to share it manually across all social networking channels multiple times during the week.

One very important thing to do as well as this sharing is to search for other relevant videos on YouTube and post your video as a video response, this creates a network between your videos and other relevant videos on YouTube, it would also be a good idea to link between your own videos in this way.

If you run with this process as time goes by once you meet certain set requirements by YouTube you can apply to be a partnered account with YouTube which allows much more Channel branding such as with many large companies already have, and once you get a YouTube channel to this level it should be generating a large amount of targeted traffic to the company website and also as time goes by will help higher the websites page rank as well as Google rankings for your targeted keywords.

These are good example of a very well branded YouTube Channel and are our target for all YouTube channels we create and manage:
